Churro Sheep are of great significance in Navajo and Spanish cultures. In 1985, Cunnington Farms began to actively participate in the conservation of this breed to insure its viability in the Navajo way of life.
These years of experience have taught the shepherds how to select the best sheep to produce the best fiber. While it maybe blended with other fibers for specific purposes, Churro wool is the foundation of the great Navajo weaving tradition, and its stand-alone superb strengt and utility make it a natural for items such as rugs and traditionally woven saddle cinches. Wool from the breed is found in many natural shades, but also produces an outstanding vibrant yarn when dyed with either commercial or natural products.
